A 61-year-old man has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison in Sweden for aggravated procuring. The man forced his wife to prostitute herself and sold her services to more than a hundred men over a period spanning more than three years.

A Swedish court has sentenced a 61-year-old man to four years and five months in prison for aggravated procuring. The man forced his wife to prostitute herself and sold her sexual services to more than a hundred men over a period spanning three years.
According to Ta Nea, the man was not only guilty of pressuring his wife to sell sex, but also personally handled most of the administration of the operation. The court described it as "relentless exploitation" of the victim.
In addition to aggravated procuring, the man was also convicted of attempted rape, assault and threats. The court found it proven that he systematically pressured his wife through persistent demands and degrading comments to force her to perform sexual acts, post material online, receive customers, and contact neighbours for sexual meetings.
Prosecutor Ynda Anersen had already in April, when the trial began, described the deep fear the woman felt towards her husband. He allegedly frightened her by threatening to "let the beast loose" if she angered him.
During the investigation, approximately 120 customers were identified. Of these, 29 were prosecuted and 28 were convicted, of whom two received prison sentences without conditional release.
However, the court was unable to establish that the woman's participation was entirely involuntary to the extent required for a rape conviction, as chat histories and the absence of direct witness testimony made it impossible to prove coercion to a sufficient degree.
The case has attracted considerable attention in Sweden and has been compared to the Dominique Pelicot scandal in France, where a man in December 2024 was sentenced to 20 years in prison for drugging and allowing dozens of men to rape his wife Gisèle at their home in Mazan between 2011 and 2020.
