Prosecutor seeks to charge Peter Carlsson over Northvolt death
The investigation into the fatal accident at battery manufacturer Northvolt in Skellefteå is now complete. The environmental prosecutor intends to bring charges against the company's founder and chairman Peter Carlsson.
The incident occurred in November 2023. A worker died at the manufacturing facility.
Christer B Jarlås, who is an environmental prosecutor, justifies the decision by stating that the person holding the position of chairman bears ultimate responsibility within a company. When no one at a lower level can be held responsible, one must focus on individuals higher up in the organisation, he explains to SVT Västerbotten.
Carlsson has been central in establishing one of Europe's largest battery production factories. He now risks being brought to trial for the death.
