Intoxicated police officer performed police duties at nightclub – sentenced in Gothenburg
During a team-building evening for Gothenburg's City Police, several colleagues continued to a nightclub, reports Aftonbladet with reference to Göteborgs-Posten. The most experienced senior officer was clearly intoxicated when he "took up duty" inside the nightclub Yaki Da.
The senior officer stopped two 20-year-old men, demanded identification and looked them up in the police register. He stated as his reason that their thick jackets aroused his suspicions.
– He was threatening, completely out of control and wanted to show his power. It felt humiliating, as if they were judging us just on appearance, says one of the young men to GP.
A patrol from another local police district was called in and was tasked with removing the senior officer from the scene.
The district court established that the police officer had breached several regulations and sentenced him for misconduct of the standard category. The sentence amounted to 60 day fines totalling 39,000 kronor, as well as just over 73,000 kronor in court costs. The police officer denies the charges and, according to GP, is allowed to retain his position.
