Five people have been convicted of involvement in an extensive fraud against an elderly man in Borlänge. The main suspect receives two years' imprisonment for over 100 cases of fraud.

A 69-year-old man in Borlänge lost nearly four million kronor after lending money to five people over several years. These five have now been convicted of fraud, whilst a sixth has been acquitted.
The matter began when the man bought a mobile phone from one of the defendants. Thereafter the relationship developed to the point where the victim lent large sums to those involved. When the loans were never repaid, the debt grew to nearly four million.
The main perpetrator, a man in his 30s, is convicted of aggravated fraud and over 100 cases of simple fraud. He is sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The other four convicted, including a woman, receive suspended sentences with community service for aiding and abetting fraud.
The court considers that the defendants exploited the victim's credulity and isolation. The man has been described as lonely and easily influenced.
