Life sentence upheld for the double murder in Klippan

The Court of Appeal for Skåne and Blekinge upheld on Wednesday the life sentence for Eddie Bager, 58, who has been convicted of the double murder of the retired couple Lena Nordahl and Anders Nordahl in Klippan. This is reported by Expressen.

In the early hours of 4 May last year, Bager entered the couple's terraced house on Torggatan via the patio – directly from a wedding party in a flat a few hundred metres away. He beat to death the sleeping couple with a fire extinguisher.

After the murders, Bager was caught on several surveillance cameras as he wandered around central Klippan. He attempted to enter a storage shed at a villa and stole a cap from another patio nearby. He was arrested on 16 May.

Bager has consistently claimed that he remembers nothing from the night of the murders. The Court of Appeal dismisses this explanation.

"The Court of Appeal, like the District Court, takes the view that Eddie Bager's claim that he would have suffered memory loss constitutes an obvious post-hoc construction that can be disregarded, and that his claim of having been drugged is contradicted by the evidence," the court writes.

Traces of blood linked to both victims were found in Bager's flat. Technical evidence also pointed unambiguously to him: "No shoe prints have been found other than those that could be linked to shoes of the model Eddie Bager wore on the night in question," the court established.

The Court of Appeal considers that the sentence should be life imprisonment because the victims "were in a defenceless position" and the "acts were characterised by particular recklessness".

Helsingborg District Court sentenced Bager to life imprisonment already in March this year. The verdict is now final.

Eddie Bager is to pay over 600,000 kronor in damages to the couple's children and to their estate.
