A woman in her 30s is standing trial at Gothenburg District Court after her five-year-old daughter lost her life in a flat fire in the Biskopsgården district during early spring.
The girl was alone in the flat when the fire broke out. This was not the first time she had been left without supervision, according to information from the preliminary investigation.
The prosecutor has brought charges of gross negligence causing another person's death and is seeking a six-year prison sentence.
"It is a matter of the mother leaving her child alone at home for an extended period and this resulted in the child dying," the prosecutor said at the opening of the trial.
The woman has neither admitted nor denied the charges.
The trial is ongoing.
