Charges for threats against justice minister following email to department

A man in his 60s is being charged at Alingsås District Court with unlawful threats against Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M), Expressen reports.

In an email to the Justice Department, the man wrote that he intended to "rip open" the cabinet minister. The full threatening message read: "If you don't remove that hell from the ether, I will rip you open like the pig you are. These voices are cheering on and if I am to do it, then it will happen like this."

The prosecutor has assessed that the action was intended to provoke serious fear for personal safety in the person the threat was directed at. The Security Police have investigated the matter and established that the charged man is behind the email address used for the threat.

An interview was held with Strömmer, who is not representing his own case in the matter. The case is being handled by the national prosecution service's security cases unit.

Expressen sought the justice minister for a comment. Press secretary Caroline Opsahl responded: "We never comment on the security of cabinet ministers."
