Man arrested after death in Klintehamn – under investigation for murder
A man in his 40s is being held in custody on suspicion of murder after another man of the same age died from injuries he sustained in Klintehamn on Gotland.
The emergency call came to SOS on the morning of Sunday 14 June. A person had ended up in the water in the harbour area and was taken to hospital with injuries assessed as life-threatening. A man was arrested at the scene and detained on suspicion of attempted murder.
On 17 June, Gotland District Court decided to remand the man in custody on probable cause for attempted murder.
Nine days later, on 19 June, the injured man died at the hospital. Relatives have been informed of the death.
On Friday 26 June, prosecutor Johanna Moberg announced that the investigation has been changed to murder. The remanded man is therefore now suspected of this more serious crime. The head of the preliminary investigation has confirmed the change to local media.
According to information from Helagotland and Göteborgs-Posten, the suspect has been in custody since the arrest on 14 June.
