On Sunday 9 February, three dead reindeer were found on a forest road just outside central Umeå. According to norran.se, a person is now suspected of a crime connected to the incident.
The case is classified as aggravated animal cruelty and property damage. Police have previously told Dagens Nyheter that they are also investigating whether a hate crime motive may lie behind it.
Prosecutor Anna Nilsson, who is leading the preliminary investigation, confirmed in an email to Västerbottens-Kuriren that a person is suspected. In a press statement from the Prosecutor's Authority, it is stated that a defence counsel has been appointed and an interrogation is scheduled for Wednesday. The person has not yet been informed of suspicion of a crime.
Defence attorney Jan Erik Jonasson told SVT on Monday that he had not yet had the opportunity to speak with his client. There is no information about how the suspected person views the allegations.
