Stone-throwing at police during moped caravan in Frihamnen, Stockholm

Moped gathering in Stockholm escalated – stones thrown at police

More than 300 young people gathered in Frihamnen in Stockholm for a moped cruise organised via social media. The caravan drove together along Sveavägen and out towards Frihamnen, where participants both showed off their mopeds and raced against each other.

When police arrived to assess the situation, things escalated. According to Expressen's information, several youths threw stones at police and barricaded themselves along the pier.

– It has been quite chaotic, in my assessment, says Sylvia Oldin, duty officer at Stockholm Police.

Oldin confirms that the youths caused significant traffic disruptions in the area and that obstacles were placed on the road towards the pier to enable driving without interruption. Whether the obstacles were placed specifically to stop police is unclear, according to Oldin.

– I don't have exact information about that, but it may well have occurred, she says regarding the stone-throwing.

A report of emergency-light sabotage has been filed. No individuals have been arrested or taken into custody at this time, and no police officer is reported to have been injured. By 4 p.m., several youths had begun leaving the location and police had begun winding down the operation.
