Two Swedish men have been transferred to Sweden from the United Arab Emirates after being wanted by Interpol. Both are now in custody.

Two Swedish men arrived in Sweden on Thursday evening after being transferred from the United Arab Emirates. The international police organisation had issued red notices for both of them. They are now in detention.
The older of the two, 45 years old, was taken into custody in Dubai in December 2023. The Swedish Economic Crime Authority is leading a preliminary investigation against him concerning serious accounting fraud, serious document forgery and serious tax crimes linked to the takeover of a number of companies. The offences are believed to have occurred between 2017 and 2022.
The younger man, 38 years old, was arrested in the United Arab Emirates in spring 2025. He is believed to have held a managerial role within a criminal network.
– We assess that the man has, on reasonable grounds, committed exceptionally serious drug smuggling and exceptionally serious drug offences, states Michaela Linderoth, press officer at the Swedish Customs Agency.
According to Linderoth, this concerns multiple smuggling occasions where very large quantities of cannabis were transported from Spain to Sweden, during the period March 2020 to January 2021. The Swedish Customs Agency and police traced the man by reviewing encrypted messages.
In November 2024, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates signed two bilateral agreements on extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
– We extend our thanks to the judicial system in the United Arab Emirates. The cooperation we have is absolutely central to succeeding with this type of case, says Police Commissioner Anders Wiberg, who heads the international unit at the National Operations Department.
