Teenager accused of trafficking a minor: drugs, deprivation of liberty and sexual contact with men

A 15-year-old girl became a victim of sexual exploitation by a woman two years her senior, according to noviny.sk. The perpetrator lured her from Trnava to Trenčín, where, under the influence of narcotic substances, she offered her to men for sexual contact.

The victim initially did not know what awaited her. She understood the situation only when she arrived at a flat in Trenčín. "The minor was to be kept under her control during her stay, and she was to provide her with narcotic and psychotropic substances. The perpetrator was to profit from this, either financially, or she was to receive drugs for it," said Roman Hájek, spokesman of the Presidency of the Police Force of the Slovak Republic.

When the girl tried to leave, the perpetrator physically prevented her. "The accused restricted the victim's personal freedom by preventing her from leaving through physical force and by locking the doors," Hájek added.

Psychiatrist Darina Hrabovská highlighted the victim's vulnerability: "Certainly the immaturity of that person, credulity, belief that nothing bad would happen." She also warned of long-term consequences: "A 15-year-old girl may suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, which manifests itself through flashbacks, re-experiencing of the traumatic event even in dreams, nightmares and insomnia."

The perpetrator complicated the situation by frequently changing her place of residence. Police nevertheless traced her and detained her at the end of September. However, the investigator, following an agreement with the supervising prosecutor, did not submit a motion to have the accused remanded in custody — she is currently being prosecuted while at liberty.

"The investigator of the illegal migration unit of the Bureau against Organised Crime, within the operation 'LAUGO', accused a 17-year-old person in the case of sexual exploitation of a minor. The case concerned the crime of human trafficking, as well as the offence of promoting drug addiction and endangering the moral development of youth," Hájek clarified.

Hrabovská emphasised the perpetrator's motivation: "This perpetrator did not view this girl as a human being with her own feelings and rights, but regarded her as a tool to obtain power and profit."

The girl is currently in safety. If found guilty, the accused faces a sentence of deprivation of liberty of up to 12 years.
