Regional court confirmed acquittal of defendants in 1997 murder case

The Regional Court in Bratislava on 3 November definitively acquitted Ľuboš Ferus and three other defendants in the murder case of Nitra underworld boss Miroslav Sýkora, noviny.sk reports. The court dismissed the appeal of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Slovak Republic against the ruling of the District Court Bratislava I from 28 March 2023 as unfounded. "The ruling is final," said Adamčiak.

The District Court Bratislava I acquitted the defendants already in March 2023 with the reasoning that the evidence presented had not proven beyond any doubt that they had committed the alleged act. The prosecutor appealed against this decision, and the regional court dismissed its appeal on Tuesday.

In addition to Ferus, the alleged former boss of the Nitra underworld, Marek Lupták, Milan Majtán and Richard Benčič also faced charges. All four denied guilt. Sýkora was murdered in February 1997 in the car park of a hotel on Bajkalská Street in Bratislava.
