Regional Court rejects prosecution appeal in Síkorovec boss murder case
The Bratislava Regional Court on 3 November definitively acquitted Ľuboš Ferus and three other defendants in the case of the murder of Miroslav Sýkora, founder of the Bratislava Síkorovec group. According to ta3.com, the court rejected an appeal by the General Prosecution Office of the Slovak Republic.
"The Regional Court in Bratislava at a public session on 3 November decided to reject as unfounded the appeal by the General Prosecution Office of the Slovak Republic filed against the judgement of the District Court Bratislava I from 28 March 2023. The judgement is final," said Pavol Adamčiak, spokesman for Bratislava courts.
The District Court Bratislava I acquitted the defendants in March 2023, reasoning that the evidence presented had not proven beyond any doubt that they had committed the act they were charged with.
Besides the alleged former boss of the Nitra underworld Ferus, Marek Lupták, Milan Majtán and Richard Benčič, nicknamed Kofola, also faced charges. All denied guilt. Sýkora's murder took place in February 1997 in the car park of a hotel on Bajkalská Street in Bratislava. The case thus remains unpunished after nearly 30 years.
