Two Police Constables Face Court Over Separate Assault Allegations
Two Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) officers have been charged in connection with separate incidents of alleged unlawful wounding and assault, jamaica-gleaner.com reports, following investigations by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
Constable Christonajae Ellis appeared before the Hanover Parish Court on Tuesday, while Constable Abian Wilson appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday. Both matters were referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which determined that charges should be laid.
Ellis faces a charge of unlawful wounding in relation to an incident that occurred in Flint River, Hanover, on July 16, 2024. The complainant alleges Ellis used his firearm to inflict an injury to his face requiring stitches. Ellis maintains he acted in self-defence. Both parties were referred to the restorative justice system for mediation, and Ellis was bound over to return to court on December 8.
Wilson was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm under common law in connection with an incident in Duhaney Park, Kingston 20, on December 22, 2024. The complainant and eyewitnesses allege that Wilson pushed a woman, causing her to fall, lose consciousness and sustain injuries. Wilson denies using any force against her. The parties were also referred for mediation, with the matter scheduled to return to court on February 4, 2027.
INDECOM stated that the two new cases bring to 22 the total number of law enforcement officers charged in 2026 in connection with incidents under investigation by the commission. That figure includes 20 JCF members — among them one former constable — and two correctional officers. The charges relate to shooting and assault investigations.
