Court grants police extra time to question teen over Stafford golf course stabbing

Staffordshire Police have been granted a 36-hour custody extension to continue questioning a 17-year-old boy arrested in connection with a stabbing near a golf course in Stafford, bbc.co.uk reports.

The victim, a man in his 60s, was attacked on a path off Newport Road at approximately 19:00 BST on 14 May. He remained in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The teenager was taken into custody on Tuesday evening on suspicion of attempted murder. By Thursday afternoon, detectives had secured a court-approved extension allowing them to hold him for an additional 36 hours.

A second suspect — a 30-year-old man — was previously arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and public order offences in connection with the incident. He has since been released on bail.

Forensic teams were seen examining the golf course the day after the attack.

Staffordshire Police said specialist officers were supporting the victim's family, and the force renewed its appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
