Bystanders urged Austin Metcalf to 'fight through' as stabbing 911 call played out

Newly released 911 audio captures the desperate efforts of bystanders to keep Austin Metcalf alive after he was stabbed at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025, according to tmz.com.

The recording opens with a man calling emergency services and telling the dispatcher that Metcalf did not appear to be breathing. He later revised that assessment, saying the teenager had managed to draw some air — though he remained unconscious.

The caller told the dispatcher that an Army veteran was applying pressure to Metcalf's chest wound. In the background, voices can be heard urging the stricken teenager to hold on. The group around him then began performing CPR, with someone repeatedly shouting "Fight through" and "Come on, Austin."

Despite those efforts, Metcalf was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Karmelo Anthony, who stabbed him during the track meet, was arrested and subsequently convicted of murder.

The 911 audio was released alongside additional material from the case, including body camera footage showing Anthony weeping as he spoke to officers and insisting that Metcalf had put his hands on him first. His legal team argued self-defence throughout the trial, but the jury rejected that claim and returned a guilty verdict.

The stabbing occurred at the track meet during what witnesses described as a confrontation between the two teenagers. The full circumstances of how the altercation began were contested during proceedings.
