Philadelphia police shut down several streets in the Fox Chase neighbourhood early Monday morning following reports of a man with a weapon on a public bus, 6abc.com reports.
Officers were called to the 7900 block of Oxford Avenue at around 5 a.m. after receiving reports of the armed individual. On arrival, they found a man seated at the back of a SEPTA bus, holding a handgun and refusing to disembark.
The man allegedly told police he had just killed two people. Authorities confirmed no other passengers were on board at the time.
Surrounding streets were closed as police established a barricade perimeter.
Separately, police are investigating a shooting in the city's East Mount Airy section, where two women were found shot in the head when emergency crews responded to an early-morning house fire on the same day. Officials have so far not linked the two incidents.
