Fatal stabbing on Queens J Train leaves one man dead

A 59-year-old man was stabbed to death on a southbound J Train in Queens on Wednesday afternoon after an argument with a fellow passenger turned violent during the evening rush hour, according to police and law enforcement sources cited by The Sun.

The attack took place at around 5:20 p.m. as the packed train approached Woodhaven Boulevard station. During the altercation, the suspect drew a sharp object and plunged it into the victim before forcing his way off the train at the Woodhaven stop, sources said.

Images from the platform show what appears to be a serrated kitchen knife alongside scattered, bloodied clothing.

Surveillance footage shows passengers streaming out of the station onto the street in the immediate aftermath. A man dressed entirely in black — sweatshirt, sweatpants, shoes and a balaclava — is then seen on video sprinting across the street after leaving the platform.

Bystanders began pointing in his direction as he fled, and a group of men nearby gave chase. Officers subsequently detained a person of interest later that evening. It was not immediately clear whether the individual captured on the surveillance footage was the same man taken into custody.

Emergency medical services transported the critically injured victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was being withheld pending notification of his family.

Northbound J trains were diverted around Woodhaven Boulevard station while detectives and crime scene unit officers processed the scene.
