School Shooting in Oregon Leaves Three Children and Teacher Dead

A 16-year-old gunman attacked an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, shooting dead three children and one teacher. The motive behind the violence remains unclear, local police chief Mike Krantz told reporters during a press conference held on Friday local time.

Investigators are still trying to understand what drove the teenager to open fire inside the school building. Before officers could intervene, an armed resident of Bend shot the assailant dead after witnessing him force his way into the school, according to Der Standard.

Authorities have not released further details about the victims or whether the shooter had any prior connection to the institution. The tragedy has left the community searching for answers as the probe continues.
