Actress charged after mid-air attack on Delta crew, released on $20,000 bail
Selma Blair has been charged with second-degree assault following a violent incident aboard a Delta Airlines flight on Sunday, Queens Criminal Court confirmed. The 54-year-old actress posted $20,000 in bail — paid by credit card — and was released on Monday.
According to variety.com, Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another while the aircraft was en route from Los Angeles to New York. She also attempted to open the plane door while in the air. Law enforcement was waiting at John F. Kennedy airport upon arrival, where police took her into custody and transported her to a hospital for evaluation. Two flight attendants reported injuries; one received treatment at a hospital.
Blair was formally arrested on Monday by a Port Authority police officer after she allegedly attacked an officer and a nurse following her removal from the aircraft, per TMZ. She appeared before Judge Indira D. Khan at Queens Criminal Court on Monday evening, as confirmed by court documents viewed by Variety.
A representative for Blair told Variety: "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
The incident is not the first time Blair has been involved in a disruptive episode on a plane. In 2016, she was removed from a flight on a stretcher while travelling with her then 4-year-old son. Blair later described the episode as "a total psychotic blackout," attributing it to mixing wine with medication. "It was horrible and frightening, and I had empathy for myself actually afterward because it was actually so out of character for me, especially because I'm a mother," she said at the time.
