Two stabbings reported near Crenshaw festival as LAPD issues citywide alert

Two people were stabbed near the Taste of Soul festival in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles on Saturday, abc7.com reports, as the Los Angeles Police Department issued a citywide tactical alert that remained in effect for several hours.

The first stabbing was reported at approximately 2:45 p.m. near Crenshaw Boulevard and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, where a group became involved in a fight for reasons that remain unclear. At least one person was stabbed. Both the victim and the group of suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

A second stabbing was subsequently reported nearby, on the 4200 block of Crenshaw Boulevard. The Los Angeles Fire Department transported one person to hospital with possible stab wounds. Authorities have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.

At 5:34 p.m., police received an additional call involving a large group of people near Crenshaw Boulevard and Stocker Street in Leimert Park. The LAPD's citywide tactical alert was eventually lifted just after 9:30 p.m.

Festival organisers said the incidents occurred outside the event grounds and had no effect on operations. "Police activity happened on the outskirts of the event," organisers stated, adding that the incidents "did not impact operations" and that the event "ended as planned."

No further details about either stabbing have been released. Both investigations remain ongoing.
