Officers responded to the 2300 block of Washington Avenue at 5:16 a.m. on Friday, 23 October 2026, after a report of a possible gunshot victim. On arrival, they encountered two men at the scene — one identified as a witness and the other as a suspect.

The suspect was found unresponsive and showed signs of a possible drug overdose. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where he remains under police guard.

RPD confirmed the case is being investigated as a homicide based on the circumstances found at the scene. The victim's identity has not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.
