Final sentence: 20 years imprisonment for the man who hid Evgeniya's body in a suitcase

Orlin Vladimirov received a final sentence of 20 years imprisonment for the murder of his wife Evgeniya, whose body was found in a suitcase in a lake near Pernik in October 2021. His father Plamen Vladimirov was acquitted. The decisions were confirmed by the Supreme Court of Cassation, according to Novinite.com.

Plamen Vladimirov was accused of concealment and disposal of the body. The Sofia Court of Appeal found him not guilty, and the Supreme Court of Cassation upheld this assessment.

Both men were initially sentenced to life imprisonment. The Supreme Court of Cassation subsequently quashed the sentence and returned the case for re-examination before a different panel of the Sofia Court of Appeal, citing violations in the collection of certain evidence and in the initial procedural actions. Upon re-examination, Orlin Vladimirov was sentenced to 20 years, whilst his father was acquitted.

Relatives, friends and dozens of citizens repeatedly protested demanding just punishment for those responsible for Evgeniya's death. In September, demonstrators again insisted on the most severe sentences — carrying suitcases as a symbol of the way the body had been disposed of, and holding placards with inscriptions "Life imprisonment for Evgeniya's murderers" and "We do not want murderers amongst us".
