Prosecution requests custody for suspect in murder of Slavi Binev
Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has requested that the court hold Turkish businessman Eyup Temiz in custody after he was charged with the wilful murder of former Member of European Parliament Slavi Binev, according to Novinite.com. Simultaneously, media outlets are revealing details of a business dispute worth 500,000 euros, while security camera footage shows a second jeep that followed the vehicle of the suspects.
The murder was committed on Saturday morning at Binev's home in the capital's Pavlovo district, following a heated confrontation. Details surrounding the incident are expected to emerge during court proceedings.
Business partnership and personal conflict
The Varna-based website "Afera" was first to report that a personal dispute lay behind the shooting. According to the publication, Nia Temiz — the wife of the accused — was a business partner of Binev in the company "Evinkо". The Temiz and Binev families had spent Friday evening in the same social circle.
"Afera" reports that after returning home, Nia told her husband that Binev had threatened her. The following morning, Temiz went to his home and, after a brief conversation, shot him in the head. Those close to Binev reject claims of threats, characterising the incident more as a family tragedy.
500,000 euros for mediation
Newspaper "24 Hours" has published additional details about the financial relationship between the two men. According to the publication, Binev received 500,000 euros from Eyup Temiz for mediation in a major business conflict between Nia Temiz and architect Kalin Tiholov.
Binev and Temiz had known each other for years, partly through taekwondo. Tiholov confirmed to "24 Hours" that the former Member of European Parliament had participated in negotiations over the distribution of corporate assets.
The newspaper reports that on Saturday morning Binev had a heated telephone conversation with Temiz's wife, reproaching her for the failure of the deal and warning that the assets could be completely lost. According to the publication's sources, Nia broke down in tears during the conversation.
How the incident unfolded
Enraged, Eyup Temiz went to the property in Pavlovo together with his personal driver and another associate. He confronted Binev with the accusation that he had secretly been working in the architect's interest to secure valuable properties. After Binev failed to dispel his suspicions, Temiz struck him in the face and shot him in the head with a legal Sig Sauer pistol, according to "24 Hours" reporting.
Security camera footage from a neighbouring property shows the three men leaving the crime scene and heading towards a silver Range Rover parked on the street. Two of them initially approached the vehicle, looked around and returned to the fence.
According to "24 Hours", the men had difficulty leaving the property and were forced to climb over the fence. Temiz's translator, described as a large man, experienced particular difficulty. The other two returned to help him, after which the three climbed into the vehicle and drove off.
Second jeep — coincidence or planned escape?
The website "Mediamol" published footage showing the suspects' vehicle departing immediately behind another jeep of the same model. Although the two vehicles may have been moving in parallel by chance, the identity of the second jeep remains unknown. This raises questions as to whether it was part of a planned escape and whether other individuals are involved in the case.
