The investigation into the deaths of two sisters in Isperikh and the subsequent suicide of their father continues, according to Novinite.com. The prosecution is studying the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and examining whether there were previous cases of domestic violence in the family.
The bodies of the girls — aged 10 and 17 — were discovered in a residence in the centre of Isperikh. The father, a 42-year-old man, was found hanged. The leading theory of the investigation is that the man stabbed his daughters with a knife while they were sleeping, after which he took his own life. The knife was discovered at the scene, and the prosecution states that there are currently no indications of involvement by another person.
The girls were last seen on Friday, and investigators believe the murders were committed on Friday evening or Saturday morning. Their mobile phones had been switched off, which is why the mother initially assumed they were on holiday and had no coverage. The bodies were discovered by the girls' grandfather, who also found the father.
Key in pocket — argument against third-party theory
Prosecutor at Razgrad District Prosecution Office Tihomir Todorov points out that the key to the residence was found in the back pocket of the man's jeans. "There is no reason to think about involvement by another person. The key to the residence was in his jeans," Todorov stated.
The prosecution is also examining the family's history and the relationship between the children's parents. The man and the mother of the girls separated approximately two months before the events. According to relatives, he displayed aggressive behaviour, which is cited as one of the reasons the woman left him.
The authorities have not yet conclusively established whether there was domestic violence. Investigators are examining whether reports were filed, whether there was contact with the police or other institutions, and whether there was an opportunity to prevent the tragedy.
Gambling, financial difficulties and message about a new partner
Todorov also mentioned information that the man may have owed money to a casino in Isperikh. He did not have permanent employment and worked as a taxi driver together with his father. The girls, for their part, regularly attended school.
The prosecutor described a hypothesis related to a message sent by the mother to one of the daughters. "There is a hypothesis that the mother sent a message to one of the daughters informing her that she had found a new man who would be their new father. Apparently this escalated to the point where the father stabbed his two daughters," Todorov stated. He added that the mother had filed reports of domestic violence but subsequently withdrew them, as a result of which police-level proceedings were terminated.
The man had no previous convictions. His possible gambling addiction and financial difficulties are also being considered as part of the investigation, but no final motive has been announced.
Forensic and psychiatric examinations forthcoming
The three bodies have been transported to a hospital in Ruse, where results from forensic examinations are expected to establish the exact causes of death. A psychiatric examination is also to be arranged concerning the circumstances related to the father.
The pre-trial proceedings are being conducted by Razgrad District Prosecution Office. Investigators continue to establish the exact sequence of events, the family circumstances and the factors that led to the deaths of the three family members.
