Last week, a mammal trained to detect illicit substances assisted a public security team in dismantling a drugs cache in the far south of the municipality of São Paulo. The incident, reported by CNN Brasil, occurred on Saturday (6) during an operation in the region known as Comunidade do Arrebento.
The uniformed officers arrived in the neighbourhood with the mission of combating retail drug trafficking and reducing the influence of criminal groups in that urban area. As they searched the buildings, the dog Gláudios — a member of the police force's kennel — demonstrated particular interest in a building that was not in use.
Inside the abandoned construction, the officers collected a significant haul: 286.6 kilograms of a psychoactive plant, 5.2 kilograms of white powder and 2.4 kilograms of a crystalline substance. The total amount approached three hundred kilograms. Also seized were containers holding a chemical substance used as a drug of abuse — two large containers and thirty smaller packets.
The material removed from circulation also included dozens of measuring equipment, a transceiver, a pistol and various items characteristic of the clandestine drug trade. The record of the incident was filed at the police unit of the ninety-eighth district, where all evidence was deposited for subsequent investigation procedures.
