Police conduct operation in Paraisópolis after officer shot by criminals
Since the morning of Monday, 8 June, Military Police officers have occupied the Paraisópolis favela in the south zone of São Paulo capital, searching for a fugitive. The man is suspected of participating in an attempted robbery the previous day that left a military police officer wounded by gunshot.
The incident occurred on Duquesa de Goiás avenue in the Real Parque neighbourhood. The officer, who was off duty, attempted to prevent two men on a motorcycle from approaching pedestrians and was shot. One of the suspects was apprehended by a Metropolitan Civil Guard officer who happened to be passing through the area. The accomplice managed to escape, taking the police officer's weapon with him.
The Public Security Secretariat reported that the search continues and policing has been reinforced in the area. Data from the Military Police intelligence department indicate that the criminals involved in the attack on the officer would be residents of the community.
During the operation, on Pasquale Gallupi street, near the São Luís alley, teams discovered an abandoned property used as a storage and distribution point for narcotics — known as a crack house. At the address, fifty kilograms of cocaine, marijuana and crack were seized, along with a precision scale, microtubes for packaging, a pistol magazine, a tripod and other materials linked to drug trafficking. The seized material was valued at two hundred thousand reais.
No one was arrested during the operation. The incident was registered at the 89th Police District in Morumbi.
