26-year-old arrested for knife crime in Yopal during Colombia national team match
In the early hours of 28 June, in the Villa Rocío neighbourhood of Yopal, a 26-year-old man who works as a barber was detained by authorities after being caught committing a crime with a cutting weapon.
The victim, Wilson Alexis Soler Rodríguez, aged 32, lived in the same area and died at the scene due to a serious injury to the neck. The incident was recorded at the intersection of carrera 14 and calle 28, at approximately 3:02 a.m.
Officers confiscated the object used: a knife with wooden handles. The body recovery was carried out by the police investigation unit in Casanare.
Initial accounts suggest the episode was triggered by a quarrel in the midst of excitement from the sporting event, aggravated by the abuse of alcoholic drinks.
During the match day, between midnight and 11:59 p.m., around thirty public brawls and more than eighteen incidents of domestic violence were reported in the Casanare capital. Although at certain moments officers were unable to attend to all calls, their presence at particular locations prevented the death toll from increasing.
The detainee awaits a judge's decision on their legal situation, in accordance with the principle of innocence established by Colombian law.
