Shotgun under a vehicle: arrest in Santa Librada neighbourhood, Usme
Bogotá Metropolitan Police detained a 23-year-old youth in the Santa Librada neighbourhood, Usme locality, on suspicion of manufacturing, trafficking or illegally carrying firearms, accessories and ammunition, according to semana.com.
The procedure began when patrols from the local station observed the man in a public area. Upon noticing the presence of uniformed officers, the individual attempted to move away and threw a metal object under a parked vehicle to avoid inspection.
The officers intercepted him a few metres from the location and searched the package thrown beneath the vehicle. There they found a shotgun-type firearm and a 16-gauge cartridge, items that did not have the required carrying permits.
Lieutenant Colonel Óscar Flórez, commander of Usme Police Station, explained that the arrest occurred during one of the "moments in which our areas of responsibility were conducting registration and control activities; they managed to intercept this person, who attempted to flee and, in the process, threw an unidentified item under a vehicle".
Flórez clarified that, upon verifying the object, "it was established that it is a shotgun-type firearm, which is why this person is presented to the competent authorities". The institution used the incident to issue an appeal to the community to promptly report any situation affecting coexistence in the city's neighbourhoods.
The arrested individual and the seized material were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which will assume the judicial proceedings to determine the legal status of the detainee.
