Twelve individuals were taken into custody following a raid that dismantled a criminal network dubbed 'Los Oporto', dedicated to the business of prohibited substances in the department of Cundinamarca. The action was led by the public forces in conjunction with the regional administration.
The departmental governor, Jorge Emilio Rey, announced the results via an audiovisual shared on social media. "Since we took over the territorial government we set ourselves the objective of dismantling the criminal structures that profit from illegal trade in La Sabana. Today we have a conclusive result," he stated.
The SIJIN, a division of the police force in the highland region, carried out extensive intelligence work that culminated in the identification and subsequent apprehension of the alleged offenders.
According to the authorities, the group operated with greatest force in Facatativá and neighbouring areas of several provinces in the department. An investigation is underway into whether the organisation maintains links with the Clan del Golfo, one of the most active illegal armed structures in the national territory.
The operation is part of a sustained strategy against microtraficking and drug distribution in the central part of the country, which seeks to affect the finances of the criminal bands operating in the area.
