A coordinated operation between agencies from Colombia and the United States led to the arrest of a man accused of distributing child sexual abuse material over the internet. The arrest was carried out in Puerto Salgar, Cundinamarca, following months of monitoring of his online activities.
The detainee, identified as Alexander Vanegas Rojas, is accused of maintaining a collection of hundreds of files containing explicit content involving minors and of sending them to contacts located in different countries. The investigation began in mid-2024, when an international alert warned of the flow of images and videos from accounts linked to the suspect.
Tracking operations enabled authorities to locate his residence in the municipality of La Dorada, in the department of Caldas. There, investigators determined that the man accessed multiple networks to upload and share the illicit material, using email services and remote storage.
The search was carried out in an area known as Corán, within the municipality of Puerto Salgar. Officers seized two mobile devices at the location, which will now be examined for possible digital evidence.
Subsequently, a representative of the prosecutor's office in Caldas brought the accused before the courts, where charges were filed for the crime of child sexual abuse material offences. The accused chose not to accept responsibility and a judge ordered his preventive detention while proceedings continue.
The institutions involved reiterated their commitment to prosecuting these crimes and invited the community to report any indication of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents through official reporting channels.
