Bogotá's Metropolitan Police dismantled an organisation dedicated to the theft of luxury automobiles after capturing three of its members in flagrante delicto. The events occurred in the Normandía neighbourhood, in the northwest of the capital, when the criminals attempted to steal a high-end sport utility vehicle.
The uniformed officers surprised the offenders at the exact moment of the crime. Thanks to police intervention, the recovery of 18 vehicles that had been stolen by this criminal network in different areas of Bogotá was achieved.
A detail that caught the attention of investigators was that one of the three captured individuals was wearing a bracelet from the National Institute of Prisons and Jails (Inpec), which could indicate that the subject had a history of incarceration or some link to the Colombian prison system.
The authorities continue to conduct investigations to determine whether the detainees belong to a larger criminal structure and whether there are additional accomplices involved in the chain of vehicle theft, dismantling, and illegal sale of automobiles in the city.
The three implicated individuals were handed over to the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, where they will face charges of qualified and aggravated theft of a motor vehicle.
