Five arrested in Bogotá for attempting to steal four vehicles in Kennedy
Officers from the Kennedy Police Station in south Bogotá thwarted the theft of four vehicles during operations carried out on Thursday 2 July. In total, five individuals were taken into custody.
The commanding officer, Juan Montilla, explained that his men managed to return to their owners two cars and two motorcycles that had been taken from their proprietors in different areas of the city. The swift action of the mobile units, combined with information provided by residents and the activation of Operation Padlock, allowed officers to intercept the alleged thieves before they could escape.
One of the most significant operations resulted in the detention of two subjects who, according to the authorities, had used a fake transportation application to lure their victim. At the time of capture, agents found a traumatic pistol that they allegedly used to threaten the driver.
All those detained were handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office to face criminal charges. The recovered vehicles were also placed in judicial custody whilst the investigation is completed.
During the present year, the Kennedy district has managed to recover 72 motorcycles and 65 cars that had been stolen. The police institution assured that it will maintain controls in the area to reduce this type of crime.
