Double homicide at birthday party in Barbosa, Antioquia: two Venezuelan men killed

Gunman bursts into Barbosa farm and kills two Venezuelans during birthday celebration

Two Venezuelan nationals were shot dead at a rented farm in the Filo Verde district, municipality of Barbosa (Antioquia), during the early hours of Sunday 29 June 2026. According to infobae.com, the attack occurred at around 4:00 a.m., during a private gathering for the holiday weekend.

The victims were identified as Efraín David Rodríguez Reyes, 28 years old, who was celebrating his birthday, and Alexander Darío Mata, 26 years old. Rodríguez Reyes died at the scene; Mata was taken to San Rafael Hospital in Girardota, where he died from the severity of his injuries.

Attacker arrived on motorcycle and selected victims

The attendees heard a motorcycle outside the property and believed it was a late arriving guest. Upon opening the door, one of the motorcycle's occupants got off, forced his way in and fired repeatedly directly at the two men. The attacker escaped in the same vehicle, which was waiting a few metres from the entrance. The remaining attendees were unharmed.

The local newspaper El Colombiano, cited by infobae.com, reported details of the criminal operation. The direct selection of victims from among all those present at the celebration is one of the elements guiding the investigation.

Hypothesis points to retaliation between criminal structures

Authorities are working on several lines of investigation. The strongest hypothesis indicates that the victims had links to criminal gangs active in the region, given the manner of execution of the attack and the precise identification of the targets. Investigators are making progress in verifying the backgrounds and possible connections of the two men to criminal organisations.

Police indicated that the perpetrators would have followed their victims for several days to establish their exact location before acting.

Wave of violence in Valle de Aburrá

The double killing was recorded on the same day a new bagged body appeared in the municipality of Bello, bringing to 16 the number of bodies found in bags or other containers in the Valle de Aburrá so far this year. Four of these incidents occurred in the last two weeks of June, a figure approaching the 18 discoveries recorded throughout 2025.

The body in Bello was found in the San Félix district, at the height of the Jalisco settlement, wrapped in black bags. A passer-by travelling on the Medellín-San Pedro de los Milagros road found it and alerted the authorities. Agents from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the General Office of the Public Prosecutor conducted the judicial inspection and transferred the remains to the Medical Examiner's office.

Faced with the accumulation of violent incidents, Police made a call to the community to report any irregularities that could anticipate similar attacks.
