Cleaning company employees who arrived at the rental property after the lease period ended discovered a grey suitcase in the bathroom containing the remains of Natalia Villalbos Angarita, a 36-year-old model originally from the city of Cúcuta in northern Colombia. The shower was still running. This was reported by 15min.lt.

The incident occurred in an apartment on the seventh floor of a building in the Colombian capital, Bogotá. Forensic medicine experts sent the body for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and time of death. Fingerprints and other traces were also collected from the crime scene.

The victim resided in the apartment from early June until 21 June. During her stay, a Texas resident citizen of the United States also lodged in the property. A British national accessed the residence on 17 June and left the next day. Video surveillance camera footage shows the British national carrying bedding towards the laundry area. These images allow investigators to trace their movement patterns during the critical period and guide the search for DNA, textile fibres or other evidence in specific locations.

As part of the investigation, security recordings, building access records and the movements of both foreign nationals are being analysed. The American and the British national are the subject of an active search. So far no arrests have been made nor has a motive for the crime been confirmed.

This case recalls the murder of disc jockey Valentina Trespalacios in 2023, whose body was also found inside a suitcase. In June 2024, a Colombian court found United States citizen John Nelson Poulos guilty of Valentina's homicide under aggravated circumstances, as well as concealment and falsification of evidence, sentencing him to 42 years and 8 months in prison.
