A former Colombian footballer was arrested in Santiago accused of brutally murdering a friend in Curacaví, Chile. The charred remains were discovered on 12 April.

On 12 April, firefighters responded to extinguish a fire in a rural area of Curacaví, in the Chilean Valparaíso region. There they found the charred remains of a man. Initial investigations revealed that the victim had suffered extreme violence before dying.
Following a prolonged investigation, in mid-May police arrested Abel Steven Carabalí in Santiago de Chile, a Colombian citizen and former football player with a past at Deportivo Cali. According to the prosecutor's office, security cameras captured him transporting a cargo cart to a parking lot. Investigators maintain that the vehicle contained the body of the deceased. Subsequently, with the help of another person, the body was moved and abandoned in the area where it was found incinerated.
The forensic report indicates that the victim presented multiple injuries prior to death. The circumstances rule out that this was a spontaneous criminal act. Furthermore, a religious text was found near the body, an element that authorities are analysing as part of the investigation.
Chilean and Colombian authorities continue to examine all possible motives for the crime.
