In the early morning of Saturday, 4 July, a resident of the municipality of Copacabana, in the department of Antioquia, lost his life after being physically attacked outside a shop in the La Asunción sector. The victim was identified as Julián Andrés Ríos Montoya.
According to a report from Q'HUBO Medellín, witnesses at the scene stated that Ríos Montoya had approached the establishment to buy a drink. He was conversing with other people there when, apparently, he offered something to drink to a woman who was at the site.
Residents of the sector indicated that the woman was in a romantic relationship with another man. This individual arrived at the place and, without uttering a word, attacked Julián Andrés in the neck area, leaving him lying on the ground.
The victim was taken to Santa María de Copacabana hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. The cause of death was trauma to the trachea caused by the blow received.
Security authorities are working on the hypothesis that the crime originated in a passionate dispute. The alleged perpetrator is at large and authorities are deploying operations to locate him.
Between 1 January and the date of the incident, police had tallied eleven violent deaths in the municipality of Copacabana.
