A 21-year-old young man admitted his responsibility in the murder of Jaime Pumarejo, a 29-year-old business administrator, which occurred during a robbery in north Bogotá. The defendant was arrested in the La Cabaña neighbourhood in Engativá, following a joint operation between the Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to reports by EL TIEMPO, the crime took place in September 2025 in the Usaquén locality, when Pumarejo was intercepted by criminals whilst travelling through the area. During the armed robbery, the victim sustained gunshot wounds that caused his death.
The defendant was presented before a judge of guarantees, where he decided to plead guilty to the charges brought by the Public Prosecutor's Office for the offence of aggravated homicide in circumstances of theft. With this decision, the case will proceed directly to the sentencing stage, avoiding a lengthy oral trial.
The authorities indicated that the arrest was achieved thanks to intelligence operations and surveillance that made it possible to locate the alleged perpetrator in the west of the capital. Investigators are examining possible links between the detainee and other people who may have participated in the robbery.
The murder of Jaime Pumarejo caused shock in the city, as the victim was a young professional who worked as a business administrator. His death adds to the list of cases of lethal violence associated with theft in Bogotá, a problem that authorities continue to combat with operations in the most affected zones.
