A man expelled from Chile on the first repatriation flight for migrants organised by the new administration was detained in Colombia after it was discovered that he was wanted by that country's justice system.
The arrested man is identified as Edison Andrés Saavedra Laiseca. Upon his arrival at El Dorado airport in the Colombian capital, law enforcement verified that there were two judicial arrest warrants against him: one for the crime of homicide and another for robbery.
The detention was made possible through coordination between Chile's Investigative Police and Colombian authorities. The flight that transported him was operated by aircraft from the Chilean Air Force and forms part of the expulsion policy driven by the current government.
In total, forty people in irregular situations left the South American country in that first operation. Of these, twenty-five were expelled through administrative procedures and fifteen through judicial decisions. The composition of the group includes nineteen Colombian citizens, twelve Bolivians and nine Ecuadorians.
