Colombia's official in charge of peace, Otty Patiño, revealed in an interview with magazine Semana that José Manuel Sierra Sabogal—known by the alias 'Zarco Aldinever'—has died. The incident is said to have occurred during an armed clash against members of the ELN in the area known as the Eastern Plains.
Sierra Sabogal served as a leader of the Second Marquetalia, a dissident faction of the Farc. Patiño stressed that the information comes from highly reliable intelligence channels, who also indicated that the man's remains were thrown into the waters of the Arauca River following the combat. The group responsible for killing the insurgent would be the one led by 'Pablito Arauca', belonging to the ELN.
The alias 'Zarco Aldinever' appeared as the main suspect in having planned the attack that cost the life of parliamentarian Miguel Uribe Turbay. The incident occurred in the Colombian capital in June 2025; the legislator succumbed to his wounds in August of the same year.
The high commissioner told Semana that the information is solid: according to his contacts, the body was not buried and ended up in a tributary of the aforementioned region. "Definitely, that man is dead. The ELN killed him," Patiño stated.
