Operation Iron 2.0 captures suspects in María Camila Potosí murder and dismantles gang led by fake referee in Cali
With 2,000 uniformed personnel from the Public Force deployed before dawn on 5 November, the second phase of Operation Iron struck eight communes and 14 neighbourhoods of Cali in a major operation that began at 1 a.m., according to eltiempo.com.
Among the most notable results of the operation were two arrests related to the murder of María Camila Potosí, a case that had caused alarm in the city. The authorities also arrested a man who was posing as a football referee and who allegedly led a criminal structure in the capital of Valle del Cauca.
During the raids, gangs such as 'los Repu', one of the criminal structures operating in the targeted zones, were hit. In several of the operations, officers seized items used to commit criminal acts, although the authorities did not specify details of the seized materials.
The operation, coordinated by the Public Force with support from the Cali Municipal Administration, formed part of a broader security strategy in the city. The first phase of Operation Iron had already resulted in arrests and blows against criminal organisations in vulnerable sectors of Cali.
The proceedings were carried out simultaneously across various points in the city, with police and military units present in each of the 14 neighbourhoods included in the operation. The authorities reported no casualties or injured among uniformed personnel during the operation, according to reports published.
