Police operation dismantles stolen bicycle storage points in Engativá, Bogotá
A joint operation involving the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, the SIJIN, the GOES and the Security Office allowed the inspection of five houses in the Luis Carlos Galán neighbourhood, where stolen bicycles, disassembled parts, identity documents and drugs were found.

A large public force deployment was carried out in the Luis Carlos Galán neighbourhood, locality of Engativá, in order to dismantle gangs dedicated to bicycle theft. The action involved the participation of more than fifty officers from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, SIJIN personnel, GOES personnel and representatives of the Security Office, according to information from El Espectador.
Officials entered five residences that neighbours had identified as hideouts for suspected criminals and as places where stolen goods could be kept. Inside these houses, agents recovered four bicycles that the occupants could not justify as their own property. Dozens of loose cycle parts were also located and will be subjected to expert examination to verify whether they come from formal theft reports.
In one of the inspected houses, investigators found 15 identification cards hidden, allegedly used to commit crimes. These documents were removed and placed in safekeeping to continue investigations.
Additionally, the operation resulted in the seizure of 50 grammes of cannabis and various forms of crack cocaine: more than one hundred capsules, one hundred papers and 51 wrappings. Pyrotechnic substances and blank-firing pistols were also found in the intervened properties. The Security Office points out that this type of finding demonstrates the use of these residences for activities that undermine the peace and tranquillity of the sector.
César Restrepo, head of the city's Security portfolio, told El Espectador that these actions respond to coordination between citizens, the police force and the administration. The official assured that the objective is to block the operations of criminal groups that are increasing insecurity in the Colombian capital.
