An operation deployed by the National Police in the municipalities of Buga and Cali achieved the seizure of 1,900 kilogrammes of cannabis, which were being transported from the locality of Corinto, in the department of Cauca, destined for the Valle del Cauca capital.
The intervention is part of a state strategy aimed at combating the illicit trade in psychoactive substances and obstructing the corridors used by criminal gangs in the south-west of the country.
During the operation, uniformed officers intercepted two vehicles used to transport the drug. Additionally, a minor was arrested, who is alleged to have committed the crime of drug trafficking.
Police authorities emphasised that such cases highlight the way criminal organisations recruit and use young people to carry out illegal activities.
Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez, head of the Defence Ministry, commented on the matter through his X profile. "This result directly affects the finances of structures dedicated to drug trafficking and demonstrates how they exploit young people," said the official.
The volume seized represents a significant setback for the groups that dominate marijuana distribution in the area, as it prevents large quantities of the substance from reaching Cali and other urban centres. The security agencies highlighted the coordination between different units in achieving the seizure.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children and young people against forced recruitment and exploitation by criminal networks.
"Our recognition to the police officers for this achievement that allows us to close drug trafficking routes and protect communities," said Minister Sánchez.
The authorities made a call to the public to report, through established channels, any conduct associated with organised crime. The Defence Minister assured that total confidentiality would be maintained for those providing information that contributes to the fight against crime.
