A law enforcement officer was seriously wounded after being attacked with a knife by three individuals who attempted to rob him in the Fontibón locality, west of Bogotá. The incident took place around 8:00 pm on 20 January 2026, in the Modelia neighbourhood, an area known as La Felicidad.
According to information provided by Julián García, who serves as garrison officer of the capital, the uniformed officer was walking along a road with abundant vegetation when he was surprised by the gang. The criminals sought to seize the belongings carried by the officer, who was injured with a knife or sharp object during the assault.
Despite the injuries sustained, the police officer was able to run and reach safety. He was later assisted by other officers who quickly took him to a nearby medical facility. There, doctors provided him with first aid and managed to stabilise him. His condition is currently stable and he is in no danger of death.
The area where the attack occurred was cordoned off by authorities to protect evidence. Investigators are reviewing recordings from surveillance cameras installed in the surroundings and seeking statements from possible witnesses to help clarify the facts and locate the perpetrators.
Officer García himself explained that investigation teams are gathering material evidence, analysing security footage and interviewing people who may have witnessed the crime. The goal is to identify those responsible for this offence and bring them before the justice system.
Residents of the sector expressed concern about the succession of robberies affecting the area. According to neighbours, the criminals take advantage of the darkness and wooded sectors to ambush those passing through the area during nighttime hours, which has generated a climate of fear among the community.
The incident reopens alarms about the security situation in Fontibón, where residents say robberies have been increasing recently, causing distress among those who must walk through wooded areas after nightfall.
