Agents assigned to the Immediate Care Centre (CAI) Modelo in the Colombian capital succeeded in recovering a vehicle that appeared in theft registries and apprehended the individual driving it. The incident occurred in the Barrios Unidos locality, according to a report by Caracol Radio.
During a patrol operation in the sector known as Siete de Agosto, officers attempted to stop a motorist for a routine inspection. The driver, instead of complying with the order, accelerated and attempted to flee, but lost control of the car and crashed.
Once the vehicle was immobilised, the officers checked the records and verified that it had an active theft report. They immediately contacted the person listed as the owner. This person explained that in November 2025 he had entrusted the car to a relative, who had disappeared since then without returning it.
The man driving the vehicle claimed he had purchased it days before through a commercial transaction. However, the agents found no support for that version and proceeded with his arrest on the suspected offence of receiving stolen property. He was subsequently handed over to officials from the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation to determine his legal status.
The case illustrates a frequent pattern in the capital, where vehicles reported as stolen circulate with new occupants who claim to have acquired them in good faith.
