Woman charged over death of romantic partner in Bogotá
A man died on 28 June following a violent confrontation with his partner in an apartment located in Kennedy, south-west Bogotá. The suspected aggressor, identified as Angie Karina Ruiz Hernández, is already in custody whilst an investigation into her conduct proceeds.
According to investigators working on the case, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when both parties engaged in a heated discussion that escalated into mutual insults. During the confrontation, the woman allegedly took a sharp object and inflicted several wounds to the man's chest and one of his upper limbs.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to leave the building by his own means in search of help. Minutes later, officers from the National Police found him in the common areas of the building. The uniformed officers applied emergency procedures and arranged his transfer to a clinic, where doctors attempted to stabilise him.
However, the wounds proved fatal. The man died hours after arriving at the medical centre, which triggered a criminal investigation to establish the exact circumstances of his death.
The CTI collected material evidence at the scene pointing to Ruiz Hernández's involvement. Following the incident, the suspect was detained in flagrante delicto and, according to official accounts, cooperated by voluntarily handing over the weapon she allegedly used. This item was incorporated into the chain of custody as evidence in the proceedings.
Subsequently, a prosecutor assigned to Bogotá's Life Unit brought her before a judge of guarantees and filed charges of aggravated homicide. At the hearing, the accused declined to acknowledge the facts.
The judge ordered that the accused remain in prison during the course of the trial. The Prosecution must now prove her guilt using the evidence collected to determine whether she was responsible for her partner's death.
