An armed clash between uniformed officers and suspected van thieves resulted in five adults being captured and an adolescent apprehended following a lengthy pursuit across northern Bogotá.

Officers from the Alhambra CAI in the Suba district detected two cars travelling unusually whilst patrolling the area. When the uniformed officers ordered the vehicles to stop for inspection, the occupants refused to comply. One of the vehicles struck the police officers and both attempted to flee.
What followed was an intense manhunt that swept across Suba, Usaquén and Barrios Unidos. During the chase, the suspects fired repeatedly at the officers, who returned fire. The shootout ended when authorities managed to stop one of the cars.
In total, five men were taken into custody and an adolescent was apprehended. Investigators indicate that the group was engaged in violent robbery of vans in the north of the capital.
During a search of the vehicles, officers found that both had their identification numbers altered. They also seized a pair of non-lethal pistols, three cloned licence plates and two mobile phones.
Judicial records checks revealed that the detainees have proceedings pending for various crimes, including: theft, receipt of stolen goods, drug trafficking, arms trafficking and extortion.
The Office of the Attorney General received those implicated, who will face charges of falsification of marks, aggression against a public official and illegal possession of weapons. Meanwhile, the Judicial Police are investigating possible connections to other vehicle thefts committed in Bogotá.
