Claudia María Ortiz Gómez, 48, was shot dead on Wednesday night outside her home in the Santo Domingo neighbourhood, in south-western Barranquilla, according to diariolalibertad.com.
The attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the junction of Calle 88 and Carrera 4B. Two men travelling on a motorcycle approached the victim while she was near her residence. Without a word, one of them drew a firearm and opened fire on Ortiz Gómez. At least three bullets struck her head.
Family members and neighbours assisted the woman and transported her to San Ignacio Clinic, where medical staff were unable to save her life. The injuries proved fatal and her death was confirmed.
The attackers fled the scene on the same motorcycle after committing the crime. Ortiz Gómez was a housewife and mother of four children.
Barranquilla Metropolitan Police assumed the investigation to establish those responsible for the homicide and determine the motives behind the attack.
With this case, two women have already been murdered in the opening days of November in Barranquilla and its metropolitan area. The previous case was recorded on Tuesday, 3 November in the municipality of Soledad, where Dubis Vanegas Rodríguez, 36, and her partner, Luis Alberto García Rodríguez, 41, were shot dead as they left their home in the La Candelaria II sector.
The authorities continue gathering witness statements and material evidence to clarify the Santo Domingo crime and locate the hit men.
