Four people and four companies charged with importing 600 tonnes of illegal waste from Germany
Bruntál police have charged four individuals and four companies with illegally importing hundreds of tonnes of waste from Germany. They face up to five years in prison.
Charges over illegal importation of German waste into Czechia
Police officers from Bruntál have charged four individuals and four companies in connection with the importation of approximately 600 tonnes of illegal waste from Germany into the Czech Republic, said Soňa Štětínská, spokeswoman for the Moravian-Silesian police, on Wednesday. According to ct24.ceskatelevize.cz, it involved an organised group, whose members face a prison sentence of up to five years.
The waste was deposited, among other places, at illegal landfills in Jiříkov in the Bruntál district and in Heršpice near Brno. The costs of its removal were ultimately borne by German authorities. The information is also confirmed by the Seznam Zprávy server.
The case was also being investigated in parallel by German police. A court in the Bavarian town of Weiden will begin hearing the indictment against the owner of the Roth International company and one employee of its Czech subsidiary next Thursday.
